Defined Contribution Plan AKA Tier IV

Hi Members,

There was an announcement from the State of Alaska regarding Tier IV, defined contribution plan. It created some buzz that it might be connected to the efforts at the Capitol to get Tier IV under the PERS system. It was not. It was a seminar on understanding the Tier IV system better and so I am providing the materials here that they offered. If any Tier IV employees have any questions, please feel free to reach out, or better yet, contact State of Alaska Retirement and Benefits at:

Interactions with Dispatch

Sister’s and Brother’s,

It has been brought to our attention that members have been having issues reaching Dispatch.  There have been errors on the crew list going on for over a year and a half, plane tickets being bought late or not at all, dispatchers being short with members while on the phone, and a multitude of other issues that we won’t post due to the sensitive nature of the interactions that folks have had with dispatchers.

We encourage members to be polite when contacting Dispatch and if there in no answer to leave a detailed message and then follow up with an email about said message.  Please cc the Union when doing so, if they know we know then things tend to go smoother. Our emails are ibualaska@ibu.org and ibuketchikan@ibu.org.  If you’ve had negative interactions with Dispatch, we encourage you to report them to Human Resources.  Please notify the Union if you feel you have to take this step.

Because Dispatch is not accepting emails as a proper form of communication, we recommend members record their conversations with Dispatch in the event that a record is needed, for any  possible Dispatch error grievances.

In Solidarity,

Earling Walli and Krissel Calibo
