2024 Wage Scales

Rebecca Weisenburger

Members,

It is with a heavy heart that we notify you of Rebecca Weisenburger’s passing. We know that she was an important person to many of us out on the vessels.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday September 15, 2024 in Petersburg, See details in her obituatiary here –> Rebecca Weisenburger Obituary

IBU/AMHS members!!

Members, our offices will be closed this Monday September 2nd, in observation of Labor Day.

Some changes to be aware of: years ago, the State of Alaska went through litigation regarding how they calculate the 12 & 18 weeks, respectively, that FMLA/AFLA (Family Medical Leave Act/Alaska Family Leave Act) affords to eligible workers.

The decision was that they could NOT count the weeks that you were scheduled off. So for example: a 2×2 schedule in a month, they would only calculate 2 weeks for that month.

That case was appealed and the decision was reversed.
The Department of Labor did not continue to pursue the case and the timeline to do so has passed.

This means that when you use FMLA/AFLA or if it is conditionally invoked for you, the time will run continuously.

If anyone has any further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to either one of us below:

Passing of Pete Lapinski

It is with a heavy heart that I pass along that Pete Lapinski retired AMHS employee and long time Patrolman for the Inlandboatmen’s Union of the Pacific,  Alaska passed away on July 2nd in Idaho. There will be a celebration of life in Ketchikan next 4th of July 2025. You can send cards and correspondence to Marcia Smith Lapinski and family 10593 N Palisades Way Boise ID 83714. In lieu of flowers Pete loved to support the Idaho Humane Society. Please share some stories and pictures of Pete with your shipmates and family, he literally helped hundreds of our union brothers and sisters over his years with the IBU. Pete will be missed by many. This post was approved by his wife Marcia.  Namaste !!!!

From our past Regional Director, Ricky Deising  to our rank and file membership of the IBUP.

Our thoughts go out to Pete’s family for their loss.  Pete would always pick up the phone and answer any questions I had about past and current issues I would have with our employers.  He was font on knowledge when it came to the Contracts in our Alaska Region.

In Solidarity,

Earling Walli
