Open Enrollment

Hello Everyone,

Open enrollment is only open for a few more days.  I’ve attached a flyer from R&B, please take a look at it.  After the 1st of the year premiums for Economy Healthcare will be increasing from $35.00 to $63.00 for the Individual and $95.00 to $167.00 for Family Plan.  Your Union bargained an .82 cent raise that gets implemented on January 1, 2024 to cover these healthcare increases.

Employee Guide

The open enrollment period for the 2024 plan year begins this Wednesday, November 1.  This is the open enrollment period for the AlaskaCare Employee Plan and for Voluntary Supplemental Benefits.  Please take a look at the Health Flexible Spending Account options, it is forward funded, it can help save on medical care costs (deductibles and other out of pocket expenses) and its pretax dollars so its not really noticed coming out of your paychecks.  Members have already started receiving communication in print and electronic format.  Open enrollment will run from November 1 – November 22, 2023.  Members can go to the attached link or if members have any questions or need assistance enrolling, they can contact the Division’s call center:

The below letter was sent to the IBU.  I am re-posting for the membership with a link to the Flyer.  The Flyer gives examples but could also encompass the maritime trade.  Please share with friends and family who might be interested in a career in the maritime industry and are looking for help getting there.

Payroll meeting next week

Dear Members of the IBU,

We know that a lot of members have had issues with Payroll these last 14 months.  Folks not being paid timely, NOPP’s not being responded to, phone calls not being answered or returned, time sheets being altered; really just an overall lack of help from the department as a whole.  Payroll is now being put back under DOT’s (Department of Transportation) umbrella and away from DOF ( Department of Finance) where it had been moved to last June.  We currently have a meeting scheduled with Payroll for next week to discuss resolutions to these issues and any other potential concerns. Please feel free to reach out to Krissel, myself, or any other E-Board Officers with any problems, insights, or suggestions that you may have.

We know that some individuals who have been working prior to July and transitioned into this new contract year have been experiencing pay-related issues due to the transition from a 1×1 to a 2×2. We also recognize that some vessels did not commence the 2×2 schedule at the beginning of the month, so that licensed/unlicensed crews could remain on the same A and B schedule rotations. Those who were working in July before the implementation of the 2×2 may also encounter pay problems due to the new contract language regarding MG and excess of 168 vs 84 hours.  We will be discussing these specific issues as well.

In Solidarity,

Earling Walli

Holiday closure

Happy 4th of July everyone. Our offices will be closed for the 4th and the 5th of July.
