Defined Benefit Retirement System
Members – a message from our AFL-CIO friends…
Alaska is one of the only states without a defined benefit retirement system. This leaves our dedicated public employees without the proper retirement security they deserve. We need your help to fix that!
On Wednesday, March 1st, 2023, Senator Cathy Giessel introduced Senate Bill 88, which would re-establish a defined benefit pension system for all public employees. This is the first step in getting Alaska back on track and ensuring Alaska’s public employees have a retirement that honors their service to our state.
We need you to send an email to Alaska’s legislators thanking the Senator for introducing SB 88 encouraging other legislators to support this bill as it moves through the Alaska Legislature.

Together, we can ensure our teachers, firefighters, public safety officers, and civil servants have the retirement they deserve.

Last week to vote
Members,
Anyone who had worked for the Marine Highway prior to September 2019 is already registered on the ibu.org website for voting. The username is usually your first and last name all capital. You can reset your password if you don’t remember it, you can also call me or Krissel and we can help you reset it as well.. Anyone hired after September 2019 should call either I or Krissel and we can help you register and set up your account. Please leave a message if no one answers as we are probably on the other line.
In Solidarity,
Earling Walli

Christopher Gray
It is with great sorrow that we notify our membership that Chris Gray was hit by a drunk driver on 12/09/22 and was killed. Below is the link to a gofundme that Chris’s friends had set up to get him home to his mother in El Paso. We have not heard of an address to send condolences to yet but will update this post when we do.

Mr. Walli,
Thank-you for your support and kind words regarding Chris. I think we’re all still in shock a little bit from the news.
If you and anyone else wishes to reach out Chris’s mom, she would love to hear from you.

It took awhile for his remains to be cremated and shipped back to El Paso. I believe he arrived at his mom’s house last Friday. I have not heard anything yet about services or a celebration of life, but I will certainly post that on the Gofundme when it’s announced.
Thank-you,
