Healthcare Issues

Dear Members,

Please look at your pay stubs over the last 8 months to see if your healthcare deductions are being deducted out of your wages.  You may also want to check with R&B at the following number to see if you are in active status or have had your healthcare benefits turned off during this period.  There have been issues with employees having their healthcare turned off without notification and having benefits denied when seeking medical care.  The numbers to call are below

(907) 465-4460 (local Juneau)
(800) 821-2251 (outside Juneau)

Memorial Day Office Closure & Bargaining in Dutch

Members,

This Memorial Day weekend, we honor the service members who gave everything for our country. Their legacy lives on in the communities, families, and freedoms they protected. We remember them with gratitude.

This weekend we hope you will be able to enjoy time with your loved ones for the Memorial Day weekend. For those out there working, stay safe and thank you for all that you do.

We will be closed on Monday May 25th in observation of Memorial Day. The following Tuesday, we will be traveling to Dutch Harbor to bargain a renewal for our IBU harbor officers and will be back in office the following Monday, June 1st.

We will still be available by phone and email, but availability might be limited.

INCORRECT “FRIDAY REVISIONS” POSTED

Members,

On Friday, May 8, the wrong revised crew lists were linked to the link on our websites. The correct ones were sent to all department heads on each vessel, respectively.

Our apologies if this caused any confusion, it has now been corrected.

SW Quarterly schedule

SW Bid holders and Reliefs —

We need to be able to work on the quarterly AFTER the announcements of bids rather than right before them, so we will be having a mini schedule released around August.

Please have your vacations in by mid-July for any vacations you want from September 15 to November 24.

We will plan to meet with Dispatch around August 1st to get the mini schedule out

HB 78

Dear IBU Members,

I wanted to check in with a quick update on HB 78, the bill which would create a defined benefit option for public employees hired after 2006.

A week ago today HB 78 was transmitted from the Legislature to Governor Dunleavy’s desk. The Governor has until the end of the day on Monday May 18 to sign HB 78, or let it become law without a signature.

The Governor needs to hear from you. And yes, it does make a difference!

Email the Governor Today: Use this link to send a respectful, positive message to the Governor* urging him to sign HB 78 or let it become law without a signature!

*please use your personal non-work email!

TAKE ACTION: 3 MINUTES FOR ALASKA’S FUTURE

As always if you have any questions about HB 78, or anything legislative session related please feel free to reach out and get in touch!

In Solidarity,

Miguel Rohrbacher

Reminder of the Healthcare Memo

Just a reminder for members.  Below is the link from 2020: Removal of Leave Without Pay Rules for AlaskaCare Employee Health Plan Eligibility.  This came about after the 2019 strike.  Basically this allows employees to be able to pay their portion either through pay roll deductions or self pay while in LWOP so that they can continue to have health care.
